Civic leadership
Dr. Tony Ruprecht and Canada’s unity walks
A former Ontario MPP and Minister of Citizenship and Multiculturalism, Dr. Tony Ruprecht has helped invite Canadians from many communities to stand together for a united country.
A record of public participation
In 1980, Toronto’s Canada Unity Rally brought residents and community leaders together during the first Quebec referendum. Its public call was simple: Canada is stronger when people show up for one another.
In 1995, unity walks and rallies again brought that message into Toronto’s streets. Dr. Tony Ruprecht helped carry forward the civic invitation for communities of many backgrounds to participate visibly in Canada’s future.
As Chair of the Save Canada Unity Coalition, Dr. Ruprecht continues this tradition with the October 3, 2026 Public Unity Walk from Queen’s Park to Toronto City Hall.
